The initial hostility and distrust brought on by the soldiers' unwillingness and inability to communicate eventually gives way to a fragile, tense relationship forged by their struggle to survive the harsh conditions of the island. For Boorman’s second film with Marvin after Point Blank, the actors and director drew on the Marvin's own hellish experiences in the Pacific War. This elegant portrait of the art worlds man of steel, Richard Serras monumental sculptures are among the defining works of our time. The film focuses on The Matter of Time, a $20 million installation comprised of several 40-ton steel plates commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. This sight-specific installation, the biggest sculptural commission ever created for a concrete space, reaches the limits of what is feasible in terms of size, form and technology. Zed (Connery) is some sort of maverick/renegade/warrior who sneaks into another dimension through the mouth of a giant floating stone head, and does so while looking mildly embarrassed and mostly nude. This stone head is Zardoz, a god who promises immortality for all who believe in him. When Zed crosses into this other dimension things go awry and suddenly there are angry septuagenarians, a whole bunch of brief nudity, and a lot of Sean Connery riding a horse while wearing a sarong made of bullets and the gnarliest mustache-ponytail combo you have ever seen. final showing

This complex, fascinating, and unpredictable documentary about sculpture artist Louise Bourgeois shows how the emotions of the past reveal themselves in her evocative and often terrifying works. Strongly influenced by Surrealists like Brancusi and Picasso, the aggressive nature and elemental design is still used in her sculptures, installations, and drawings today. Bourgeois use of unorthodox materials and techniques fused with a postwar sensibility helped her create artwork that represented the emerging radical ideas of the body, gender and sexuality. Four years after the events of the first film, Father Philip Lamont (Burton) has been summoned by the church to investigate the exorcism of Regan (Blair). Father Lamont finds himself entangled with Regan's memories and the demon itself, and must travel to Africa to uncover how to banish the demon once and for all. The plot is at times convoluted, but Boorman's baroque imagery, a score by Ennio Morricone (most famous for the spaghetti westerns of the 1960's), and tinges of religious rebellion, help to make EXORCIST II an underrated cult classic. one day only

Watching birds from his window and ignoring the plans of hangers-on to restore him to his lost throne, Leo's gradual involvement with his impoverished black neighbors leads to a climactic act of self-dispossession. One of Boorman's unsung masterpieces, Leo the Last marks an early highpoint in his experiments in art direction. Decor, costumes, and backgrounds are all black, white or brown, and even the exteriors are severely desaturated.
